Eight Types of Favorable and Unfavorable Combinations (8): Yangren Pattern
The Yangren Pattern belongs to the special patterns. There are two types of special patterns: the Yangren Pattern and the Jianlu Pattern. According to statistics, if a person with the Heavenly Stem of Jia is born in the Yin month, when they are at the Linguan position and have a strong body, it is called the Jianlu Pattern. If a person with the Heavenly Stem of Jia is born in the Mao month and also has a strong body, it is called the Yangren Pattern. For the Heavenly Stem of Jia Wood, having these two Earthly Branches generally means having a strong body. As long as there are Wealth and Officials, it can be classified as the Yangren Pattern. Since it is the Yangren Pattern, as long as there is the Seven Killings, it indicates a good fate. Using the Wealth Pattern won't work because the Yangren overcomes the Wealth. If using the Official Pattern, you need to exceed what the Official can bear. There is no need to use the Seal Pattern because the Seal supports the body, and there is no need for the Yangren to support the body again.
Well, for these eight patterns, according to the principle, when it should be used in the normal way, use it normally; when it should be used in the reverse way, use it reversely. In either case, one can achieve glory, wealth and high social status. Using the normal pattern in the reverse way leads to poverty and low social status, and using the reverse pattern in the normal way also leads to poverty and low social status. There are only eight patterns in total. Think about it, are there only eight types of people in the world? No, there are more. These eight patterns are the foundation.
Therefore, the study of fate theory is very difficult to understand and learn. It doesn't present one pattern at a time. Sometimes, two or three patterns may appear together, and one needs to reconcile them. As for what the final pattern is, the method of reconciliation needs to be specifically discussed. When determining patterns, there is the method of "heavenly stems showing and earthly branches hiding", where there are corresponding elements in both the heavenly stems and earthly branches. Another method is to determine patterns based on the three - combinations and three - conjunctions. Patterns and situations are distinct. The ones determined by "heavenly stems showing and earthly branches hiding" are called patterns, while those determined by the three - combinations and three - conjunctions are called situations. When we talk about "patterns and situations", we consider whether the situation is grand and whether the pattern is of high - quality... All the patterns formed by the three - combinations and three - conjunctions of earthly branches are used in a reverse way. Because there are enough elements involved. For example, when Jia encounters the three - conjunction of Si, You, and Chou, which forms the Metal situation, it is the three - conjunction of the Seven - Killings. Since what restrains me is the official and the seven - killing, once there is Si, You, and Chou, it forms the Seven - Killings pattern. The patterns formed by the three - combinations and three - conjunctions are used in a reverse way, not in a forward way. For example, when Geng encounters the three - combination of Yin, Wu, and Xu, Fire restrains Metal, which also forms the Seven - Killings pattern. When Jia encounters the three - combination of Shen, Zi, and Chen, Water generates Wood, which forms the Seal pattern, specifically the Partial Seal pattern. So, all the patterns formed by the three - combinations and three - conjunctions of earthly branches are regarded as being used in a reverse way. Therefore, Shen Xiaozhan said that one should use the forward way when appropriate and the reverse way when appropriate. The entire book "The True Interpretation of Ziping" focuses on the cross - mixed use of one, two, or three patterns, and it is completely based on the use of patterns.
The principles of fortune-telling have changed to some extent over the years. Currently, our principles of fortune-telling are most influenced by those of the Qing Dynasty. Generally speaking, the rituals and music in China change every 300 years. So, what are the differences between the theories of the Qing Dynasty and those of the Ming Dynasty? The order and reverse of the patterns are the same. Only in the Qing Dynasty was an additional rule called the "regulating and harmonizing favorable element" emphasized. The "regulating and harmonizing favorable element" is mainly based on the month branch! The Qing Dynasty believed that even if your pattern is excellent, including having wealth, official rank, and seals, you can at most have 10 million. For an ordinary commoner, having 10 million is probably like being a successful section chief, who has received a salary throughout their life without misusing it, gets a pension after retirement, and doesn't encounter things like bad debts.
If you want to have a deposit of over ten million, then you need to use the "Regulating Qi God" (a concept in traditional Chinese metaphysics), and you need to have the right timing! We Chinese people say that small wealth comes from frugality, while great wealth comes from heaven. Where is heaven? You can't see it. It refers to timing and opportunities. So, how to choose the "Regulating Qi God"? It is selected according to the monthly branch. I usually refer to it as "heaven". When you look up at the sky, you see nothing. What can we feel? What can we feel as "heaven"? People can feel the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter, and the alternation of day and night. This is what we know as "heaven". The four seasons are represented by the monthly branches. As for the "Regulating Qi God", currently, it mainly applies to summer, winter, and the third and ninth months of the lunar calendar (represented by the Earthly Branches Chen and Xu), which are quite stable. If you are born on a day with the Heavenly Stem Jia in summer and you have the element of Gui Water in your Bazi; or if you are born on a day with the Heavenly Stem Jia in winter and you have the element of Ding Fire in your Bazi, then you have obtained the "Regulating Qi God", and you may be able to accumulate over ten million.
If the overall situation of one's birth chart aligns perfectly with the requirements of the season, one's success will come from career success. If the overall situation and the requirements of the season do not match, one's success will not come from one's current industry. For those born in the Chen or Xu months, the favorable element for balancing the season is Jia. Therefore, according to the current common practice of fortune - telling, when a guest comes, if I know they are of high - status, I will directly first look at the favorable element for balancing the season. If it is an ordinary person, we look at the overall situation of the birth chart. When the favorable element for balancing the season is related to the relatives in the birth chart, these relatives will surely help you. For example, for a female with the Geng Day Master born in winter, using Bing and Ding to balance the season, Bing and Ding represent her husband. Her good fortune completely comes from her husband. No matter what happens to her, it is related to her husband. Now, what I've introduced about the favorable element for balancing the season and the favorable element in the overall situation is just a general overview. Apart from the common patterns, there are several well - known special patterns: the Jianlu Pattern and the Yangren Pattern, which are classifications.
In addition, there are several special configurations that are often seen: the Three Wonders, namely the Heavenly Wonder, the Earthly Wonder, and the Human Wonder. When we come across such configurations, we say that the person has a good fortune. This kind of good fortune doesn't refer to great achievements. For example, a son - in - law of a princess (a "horse - shooting lord" in traditional Chinese terms) who depends on the princess, of course, has a good fortune! It can also be said that it's not achieved through one's own efforts. Well, opinions may vary on this!
The first type is called Tianqi. There is a formula for it. When the Heavenly Stems contain the three characters Jia, Wu, and Geng, it is called Tianqi. Why is having these three characters an indication of a good fortune? Because the Tianyi Noble Persons for the three Heavenly Stems Jia, Wu, and Geng are all Chou and Wei, so the power is enhanced. It is much more powerful than an ordinary Tianyi Noble Person. For example, a civil servant is in the office. A good friend and old colleague calls him and says, "There's something I need your help with!" Then he has to offer help. When he gets home, his wife also says, "You must help so-and-so with this matter." Two people have made the request. After a while, his former superior calls as well. With three people making the requests, it's like the Three Wonders! The power of the noble persons is tripled. Moreover, even more remarkably, three columns govern forty - five years. With the power tripled and the effectiveness lasting for a long time, this person won't encounter any problems in his whole life. This is the Heavenly Three Wonders.
The second type is called the Earthly Wonders. There are three characters, namely Yi, Bing, and Ding, among the Heavenly Stems. There are also three wonders in Qimen Dunjia, which are also Yi, Bing, and Ding. Why are these three characters the three wonders? They protect each other. Yi clashes with Xin, Bing combines with Xin; Bing restrains Geng, and Yi combines with Geng. There are no clashes! If one character is clashed, another character will combine with the clashing character. It's very lucky for a person not to encounter any clashes throughout their life! We often get stuck when doing things halfway because of clashes. Therefore, the advantage of Yi, Bing, and Ding is that there are no clashes or punishments at all. This is called the Earthly Wonders.
The third type is called the "Three Wonders of People". The characters "Ren", "Gui", and "Xin" seem to have no connection. There is philosophical thought behind this. Philosophy holds that the clashes and punishments between heaven and earth are all related to the seventh - digit numbers. Clashes always occur at the seventh digit. When we sing, it's also 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and there is no eighth note. This is called the "extreme position". Well, "Ren", "Gui", and "Xin" come after the seventh digit. As long as another character is also within the scope of "Ren", "Gui", and "Xin", this person is outside the scope of bad luck. Even if a plane crashes, he won't die. Bad luck is all within the seven - digit range. When arranging the eight characters of one's birth date, as long as there are characters above "Geng", they are within the scope of bad luck. Well, this is not part of the Ziping School but is quoted from the theory of the Five Elements. You all should know that the emperor used to offer sacrifices to heaven every winter solstice. It has been like this since the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors. When to offer sacrifices to heaven? On the first "Xin" day after the winter solstice. "Geng" and "Xin", it means surviving a disaster! Even the sacrifices to heaven five thousand years ago had to avoid the number seven. So "Ren", "Gui", and "Xin" are the Three Wonders. Well, among those who can tell fortunes, hardly anyone knows about these three wonderful patterns. This kind of good fortune doesn't mean having several big companies and billions of dollars. No, it means living a comfortable and peaceful life. Without talking about personal sense of achievement, it's really not bad. This is called the Three Wonders.
What about another one? Let me introduce the Kuigang Grid. Tian Gang (Heavenly Warrior) and Di Kui (Earthly Fiend) refer to Chen and Xu. So there are only four days: Geng Chen, Geng Xu, Ren Chen, and Wu Xu. People born on these four days are said to have the Kuigang Grid. It has a characteristic: the personalities of the four types of Kuigang are different. Geng Chen and Geng Xu are Metal Kuigang, who are very public - spirited and like to meddle in other people's affairs. Water Kuigang is aggressive and may scold and beat others. Earth Kuigang is silent. The four types of Kuigang can be represented by four words: reasonable. If you sit in front of them, they'll know what you're thinking just by a twitch of your eyebrows. However, they may not be smart when it comes to studying. They understand human nature, are reasonable and very just. In the Qing Dynasty, people with this grid would become imperial censors or supervisors. But the Kuigang Grid has one thing to fear, which is conflict. For example, if there is a conflict for Geng Chen and Geng Xu, they'll become what the ancients called "people from all walks of life". So these are some special grids.
It doesn't matter if a woman's birth chart falls into the Three Wonders Pattern. However, it's not suitable for a woman's birth chart to fall into the Kui Gang Pattern. Once a woman's birth chart falls into the Kui Gang Pattern, none of them will have a good marriage. Why is that? The way she speaks makes people feel that she can completely see through your mind, which will make men feel scared. So, women with the Kui Gang Pattern in their birth charts are quite good at doing business. The Kui Gang Pattern cannot be clashed. There is a condition for the Kui Gang Pattern, that is, the Day Master should carry it. For example, if the Day Master is Geng Xu, then it is the Kui Gang. If there is Geng Chen in the Month Pillar, it is the Double Kui Gang. If it is also carried in the Year and Hour Pillars, it's okay to have three or four Kui Gangs. But the first condition is that the Day Master must be Kui Gang first. In the past, people with the Kui Gang Pattern were not allowed to eat beef. I have no opinion on this! This is the local folk custom and moral code. Anyway, the Kui Gang Pattern cannot be clashed. Once it is clashed, one will meddle in other people's business and cause a lot of trouble for themselves. A woman's birth chart must never be of the Kui Gang Pattern.
These are special patterns, the ones that have been statistically identified. Additionally, there are two other types of special patterns that are not based on statistics! I'll just give a general idea. For example, there is the pattern where everything is of the same element, like all wood. It's an all - wood configuration. And there's also an all - fire configuration where everything is fire. So, can an all - wood configuration include another element of the Five Elements? For instance, water and wood. Since water can nourish wood, it seems to be another pattern, apparently two patterns in total. These are the "submissive patterns". Sometimes they are truly submissive, and sometimes they are falsely submissive. Submissive patterns are relatively difficult to identify clearly. However, submissive patterns are not considered mainstream in fortune - telling. There is such a theory in the aspect of patterns. Fortune - telling focuses on wealth and honor. The theory of the Five Elements in the eight - character horoscope basically follows two principles: it should neither be too pure nor too chaotic. As the saying goes, "If the water is too clear, there will be no fish." So, the fortune - telling books state that for a pattern like "Jia being straight and flexible" and "Bing being upward - blazing", a pure wood configuration or a pure fire configuration may lead to a high - ranking official position but with a tendency to overcome one's wife and not be wealthy. It's too pure. If there are too many clashes and punishments in your eight - character horoscope, it's too chaotic. Both excessive purity and excessive chaos are not favored by the Five Elements. Then, if there are some minor flaws but not too serious ones, and they can be balanced through the favorable element, the pattern, and the interactions of generation and restraint, it indicates a good fortune.
Today, the usage rules of eight bazi patterns were discussed. However, those who only focus on these eight patterns usually can't do fortune - telling. Why? They can only talk about whether a person has a high - or low - level fate, that is, whether one has a good fate. Then, can those who consult about their fates just be satisfied upon hearing that they have a good fate? No. First, 70% of people don't have good fates. There are more ordinary people and very few with high - level fates. Second, for a person with a good fate, don't you talk about the details? Even if you don't talk about the details, until when will the good fortune last?
You can't explain it. This has to involve the concept of "Liunian" (annual luck cycles). Once "Liunian" is involved, it becomes complicated! Well, all that has been said so far, both now and before, are the basics of Bazi (Eight Characters of one's birth time in Chinese fortune - telling). You must understand them. If you understand them all or can even recite them, that's the start of reading Bazi.
Start by elaborating on the specific rules of wealth, sons, prosperity, and longevity based on the eight characters of one's birth date. First, discuss the eight characters themselves, whether the five elements are complete, and separately talk about the five aspects of wife, wealth, sons, prosperity, and longevity. Then, look at your major luck cycles. How is each of the six major luck cycles? Or, regarding your annual luck over thirty or forty years, in which years are there the three punishments, six clashes, and three combinations? And which years have neither clashes nor combinations? Classify all these, and it will become a book, that is, a book on fortune - telling. Everyone knows about major annual luck or detailed fortune - telling for a lifetime! Well, ordinary people don't need such detailed fortune - telling. Just knowing the annual luck for one or two years is enough! All the detailed rules are based on what has been said before. If you can't memorize the relationships of the ten gods including generation, restraint, punishment, clash, combination, and conjunction, it will be very tiring. You may understand it, but it will be very difficult to actually do the fortune - telling.
