When combinations appear between different palaces, they help show which relationships are more likely to be harmonious. For example, a Year-Month combination can suggest a better relationship with parents and more support in early life. A Year-Day combination can show a smoother relationship between one’s parents and spouse. A Month-Day combination may suggest support from a spouse, siblings, or friends. A Day-Hour combination often points to a better parent-child relationship and a more settled later life.

In general, Three Meetings are the strongest because they gather the Qi of one direction and one element. Three Combinations are also strong, but less unified. Six Combinations are two-branch relationships, so their force is weaker, while Half Combinations are usually the lightest.

When a clash appears between palaces, it often shows where life may feel unstable. A Year-Month clash can point to a less steady early life or weaker family support. A Year-Day clash may show tension between one’s parents and spouse, or a tendency to live away from home. A Month-Day clash often relates to relationship or career ups and downs. Overcome is not always negative. The key is to see which side is being overcome, and whether it is a favorable or unfavorable force. When a favorable force is overcome, support may be blocked and one’s ability may be harder to express. When an unfavorable force is overcome, it can help control problems and reduce pressure.

A Day-Hour harm can show regrets around children, their development, or plans for the second half of life.

Self-Punishment is often linked to self-created worries, confusion, and a lack of clear direction. For example, Chen-Chen Self-Punishment may show stubbornness, strong principles, unrealized talent, or a tendency to start strong but not finish well. Wu-Wu Self-Punishment can show competitiveness and impatience. You-You Self-Punishment may show loyalty, but also a tendency to feel frustrated or withdrawn. Hai-Hai Self-Punishment can show intelligence, while also keeping many feelings inside. Zi-Mao punishment leans toward disrespect or poor boundaries, while Chou-Wei-Xu Three Punishments often point to pressure, competition, and challenges from the outside world.

Yin-Hai and Si-Shen are special because they are both Six Combinations and Six Breaks. This creates a subtle relationship: people may argue or fall out when they are together, but miss each other when they are apart. It has a love-hate quality.

It does not directly change the chart structure. It often points to private feelings, secret relationships, hidden income, or unseen benefits, especially when the spouse palace, Wealth Star, or Officer Star is involved.

They are mainly used for interpretation and do not directly decide the chart structure. If the hidden branch is favorable, it may show unseen support or unexpected chances. If it is unfavorable, it may point to hidden pressure, obstacles, or problems that are not easy to notice.
