How to Calculate Your Ten Gods in BaZi

You can calculate your Ten Gods in three steps.

Step 1: Find Your Day Master

Your Day Master is the Heavenly Stem of your Day Pillar. It is the reference point used to calculate all Ten Gods in your BaZi chart.

Step 2: Determine the Five Element Relationship

Compare each Heavenly Stem in your chart with your Day Master based on their Five Element relationship.

How to Read Your Ten Gods in a BaZi Chart

Once you know which Ten Gods appear in your chart, read them step by step rather than interpreting each one in isolation.

Step 1: Identify the Ten Gods in Your Chart

Start by looking at the Ten Gods shown in the Heavenly Stems and Hidden Stems of your BaZi chart. Note which Ten Gods appear and whether any of them appear more than once.

Step 2: Check Where Each Ten God Appears

Look at whether each Ten God appears in the Year, Month, Day, or Hour Pillar. Its position adds another layer of meaning, as different pillars relate to different life stages, relationships, and areas of life.

Step 3: Consider Its Strength and Role

Do not judge a Ten God only by how many times it appears. Its meaning also depends on the strength of the Day Master, the overall balance of the chart, and whether that Ten God supports or disrupts that balance.

Step 4: Read Ten Gods in Combination

Ten Gods also interact with one another, so combinations can be more important than a single Ten God on its own. For example, patterns such as Hurting Officer with Resource, Eating God controlling Seven Killings, and Direct Officer mixed with Seven Killings each have their own interpretations.

A Ten God is not inherently good or bad. Its meaning depends on its position, strength, and relationship with the rest of the chart.

It often shows a weaker sense of self-direction and a tendency to be influenced by people, circumstances, or the feeling of the moment. This person may not enjoy active networking or constant peer interaction, and may be better suited to earning through skills, craft, professional ability, or personal work.

Does having no Output mean poor expression or little enjoyment in life?

Not necessarily. A lack of Output does not mean the person has no food, comfort, or ability to express themselves. It often shows lower material desire, less focus on pleasure or appearance, and a more reserved way of speaking. This person may be less fluent in face-to-face expression, but may still communicate well through writing, technical skill, steady routines, or long-term practice.

Does having no Wealth mean a person will not have money?

No. A lack of Wealth does not mean a person cannot have money. It often means their desire for money, financial planning style, and sensitivity to profit may differ from others. This person may have lower material desire and may not force themselves to chase money through overtime, social obligations, or high-risk returns. Wealth still depends on luck cycles, annual timing, Lu Shen, Output, Authority, Resource, and the full chart structure.

Does having no Authority mean a person cannot build a career?

No. A lack of Authority does not mean a person has no career. It often shows that the person dislikes being restricted by rules, hierarchy, systems, or supervisors. They may not be suited to rigid office schedules, government-style structures, or highly regulated workplaces.
