Hai-Mao-Wei Wood Half Combinations

Hai-Mao-Wei is the Three Combination family of Wood: Hai is Wood's growth stage, Mao its peak, and Wei its storage stage. The two common Half Combinations that include the peak branch Mao are Hai-Mao and Mao-Wei.

Hai-Wei belongs to the same family but lacks Mao, the peak branch. In this site's taxonomy, Hai-Wei is treated as a Hidden Arch toward Mao rather than the same type of Half Combination.

Hai-Mao connects the growth and peak stages of Wood. Hai is itself a Water branch, but within Wood's twelve-stage cycle it is the growth position. Mao is a Wood branch and the peak position of Wood, so the pair has a clear Wood direction.

This is why a Half Combination cannot be understood only from each branch's basic Element. Hai does not become Wood; it participates because of its position in Wood's growth cycle.

Mao-Wei connects the peak and storage stages of Wood. Mao carries Wood at its strongest point, while Wei is where Wood enters storage. Hai-Mao, by contrast, links growth to peak.

Both pairs revolve around Mao, but their structures are different. Their actual strength depends on Mao's seasonal condition, support from Water or Wood, and other interactions such as a You Clash or Xu Combination.

A Half Combination contains only two members of the three-stage structure. The full Hai-Mao-Wei Wood Combination requires the growth, peak, and storage branches to be present together. San Ming Tong Hui explicitly states that a missing branch prevents the structure from being treated as a complete Three Combination.

Hai-Mao or Mao-Wei can therefore indicate a Wood-oriented relationship without being treated as a complete Wood structure or as a fixed percentage of the full Combination.
