Void Star, also called Xun Kong, points to emptiness, weakening, and something becoming hard to use in practice. In BaZi, it is used to judge whether the strength of a branch, Ten God, or symbolic star is reduced. It is not always negative. When a favorable sign falls into Void, the benefit may be visible but hard to obtain. When an unfavorable sign falls into Void, its harmful effect may be reduced. Void Star can also weaken material expression while increasing imagination, intuition, and spiritual awareness.

Reduced strength

The main function of Void Star is weakening. It reduces the effect of the related branch, Ten God, or symbolic star. A strong sign may become unstable, hard to manifest, or visible but difficult to use.

Auspicious stars in Void

When nobleman stars, Prosperity Star, Peach Blossom, or other favorable signs fall into Void, the person may see the opportunity but receive limited real support. The benefit exists in name, but its practical effect is weakened.

Inauspicious stars in Void

When an inauspicious star falls into Void, its harmful effect may be reduced. For example, Yang Blade in Void can lessen aggression, impulsiveness, or injury risk, although it may also weaken decisiveness.

Mind and intuition

A chart with strong Void influence often shows active thinking, sharp intuition, and interest in metaphysics, philosophy, art, religion, or inner life. When supported by the rest of the chart, this can help with writing, speaking, consulting, audio work, or creative fields.

Action and follow-through

Too much Void influence may lead to many ideas but weak follow-through. It needs enough practical structure in the chart to turn imagination and perception into real results.

The common rule is: in the Jia-Zi cycle, Xu and Hai are void; in the Jia-Xu cycle, Shen and You are void; in the Jia-Shen cycle, Wu and Wei are void; in the Jia-Wu cycle, Chen and Si are void; in the Jia-Chen cycle, Yin and Mao are void; in the Jia-Yin cycle, Zi and Chou are void. In practice, the Void derived from the Year Pillar and Day Pillar is often emphasized. If the void branches appear elsewhere in the chart, that position is considered affected by Void Star.
