Yin-Wu-Xu Fire Half Combinations

Yin-Wu-Xu is the Three Combination family of Fire. Yin is Fire's growth stage, Wu its peak, and Xu its storage stage. The two common Half Combinations are Yin-Wu and Wu-Xu, both of which include Wu, the peak branch of Fire.

Yin-Xu lacks Wu, so in this site's taxonomy it is treated as a Hidden Arch toward Wu rather than the same type of Half Combination.

Yin-Wu connects the growth and peak stages of Fire. Yin is a Wood branch and also the growth position of Fire, while Wu is a Fire branch at Fire's peak. The pair therefore has a clear direction from generation toward stronger Fire.

It still lacks Xu, the storage branch, so it should not be treated as a complete Fire Combination. A strong Zi Clash to Wu or a Water-dominant chart can also reduce how clearly the Fire relationship operates.

Wu-Xu connects the peak and storage stages of Fire. Wu carries Fire at its strongest point, while Xu stores Fire. Its structure therefore differs from Yin-Wu: Yin-Wu moves from growth to peak, while Wu-Xu moves from peak to storage.

Xu is a dry Earth branch and contains Ding Fire, so the pair already has a close Fire-Earth connection. Even so, the actual Fire strength still depends on season, rooting, and restraint from Water or Metal elsewhere in the chart.

Yin-Wu or Wu-Xu contains only two stages of the three-stage structure. San Ming Tong Hui treats the complete Three Combination as a full sequence of growth, peak, and storage and states that a missing branch prevents the structure from being read as the complete Combination.

Half Combination therefore does not mean a fixed percentage of the full Fire structure. If the third branch later appears, the chart should be reassessed for the complete Yin-Wu-Xu Combination and for any clashes or strength conditions that affect it.
