Earth Turn

Earth Turn Interpretation
Na Yin Seasonal Strength
Earth Turn centers on the Day Pillar's Na Yin matching the season's dominant element. Xin-Mao corresponds to Wood in spring, Wu-Wu to Fire in summer, Gui-You to Metal in autumn, and Bing-Zi to Water in winter.
Reversal After a Peak
Earth Turn also uses the idea of strength reaching an extreme and then reversing. It is better read as a symbol of changing conditions, repeated plans, or instability after a peak rather than as one fixed negative event.
Difference from Heavenly Turn
Heavenly Turn uses a Day Stem and Day Branch that directly align with the season's dominant element. Earth Turn instead combines a seasonally strong branch with a Day Pillar whose Na Yin matches that seasonal element.
Reading Note
Classical descriptions of Heavenly and Earth Turn can be severe, but Earth Turn should not be used alone to predict early death, accidents, or career failure. Read it together with the Ten Gods, elemental balance, luck cycles, and annual influences.
How to Find Earth Turn
Lookup Basis
| If born in | Look for this Day Pillar |
|---|---|
| Spring (Yin 寅, Mao 卯, Chen 辰 months) | Xin-Mao 辛卯 |
| Summer (Si 巳, Wu 午, Wei 未 months) | Wu-Wu 戊午 |
| Autumn (Shen 申, You 酉, Xu 戌 months) | Gui-You 癸酉 |
| Winter (Hai 亥, Zi 子, Chou 丑 months) | Bing-Zi 丙子 |
Example
For example, a Xin-Mao 辛卯 Day Pillar in a Yin, Mao, or Chen month qualifies as Earth Turn.
The Na Yin of Xin-Mao is Wood, Wu-Wu is Fire, Gui-You is Metal, and Bing-Zi is Water, matching the dominant element of spring, summer, autumn, and winter respectively.
The complete Day Pillar must match. Seeing only Xin, Mao, or even Xin-Mao elsewhere in the chart does not establish Earth Turn.
Because this rule is defined by the Day Pillar itself, there is no separate Year, Month, Day, or Hour Pillar placement interpretation.
