Symbolic Stars Guide - Kui Gang

Kui Gang carries the image of the Big Dipper, heavenly stars, upright force, and protective armor. In BaZi, it often represents righteousness, courage, decisiveness, resilience, and strong self-command. Its force is powerful. When the chart can support it, Kui Gang can act like strong backing and make a person more forceful in action. When the chart cannot carry it, or when the Day Pillar is clashed, damaged, or void, this force may become rigid, impatient, or hard to coordinate.

Interpretation

Personality

People with Kui Gang often appear upright, decisive, clear in likes and dislikes, and unwilling to act weak. They usually prefer direct action over hesitation.

Ability and Career

Kui Gang emphasizes self-power and control. When supported by Companion stars or Resource stars, it can show strong independence, drive, and the ability to handle responsibility alone.

Authority and Rules

Kui Gang carries authority and firmness. Used well, it supports principle and responsibility. Used poorly, it may become too forceful or unwilling to accept limits.

Relationships

When Kui Gang is too strong, the personal aura can feel hard or dominant. Close relationships may need more patience, flexibility, and balance. Relationship outcomes still depend on the Spouse Palace, Wealth or Officer stars, and the full chart.

Clashes and Damage

Kui Gang dislikes being clashed, damaged, or void. When the Day Pillar is weakened, its protective force may become unstable, making it harder for the person to use their ability smoothly.

Kui Gang with Void Star

The practical effect of Kui Gang is reduced. The person may have presence and force, but less stable follow-through.

How to Find Kui Gang

Lookup Basis

Custom Rule
Kui Gang is determined by the Day Pillar only. If the Day Pillar is Ren-Chen, Geng-Xu, Geng-Chen, or Wu-Xu, the chart is generally treated as having Kui Gang. The same combinations in the Year, Month, or Hour Pillar do not count as Kui Gang. Also check whether the Day Pillar is clashed, punished, broken, or void, because damage can weaken its effect.

Example

For example, a person with Geng-Xu as the Day Pillar is generally considered to have Kui Gang. If Geng-Xu appears only in the Year, Month, or Hour Pillar, it is not counted as Kui Gang.
